Our client’s vision is a second living area with three functions: a library for a large collection of books and papers amassed over years of teaching and research; a reading area for relaxing, studying, and reading; and a four-piece accessible bathroom for continued living in the house and aging-in-place.
The project for this traditional ranch style home circa 1976, is divided into four priorities:
Priority 1: Convert the Garage into a library/living space with a four fixture accessible bathroom. Add windows in the wall holding the garage door and plenty of shelving.
Priority 2: Revising the grading of the backyard to improve drainage to the street at the front of the house.
Priority 3: A new carport and covered porch at the front of the house add cover for parking and improved access to and from the front door.
Priority 4: A new Back-of-the-house addition increases the living and dining space for family gatherings. Also, expanding the master bedroom adds a reading area with limited remodeling of the great room and kitchen.
