Story

For many years little league baseball has been synonymous with College Station, Texas. The population growth of the city stretched the Parks and Recreation Department’s (PARD) scheduling of little league baseball games. Funded though bond elections, construction of the Wayne Smith Little League Park provided PARD with an additional resource, opening in spring of 1998.

Included in the project are three regulation little league baseball fields with player dugouts, bleacher seating, lighting, electric scoreboards, batting cages, and an amenities building for concessions, public restrooms, and an umpire locker room with equipment storage.

The project site, at the intersection of Holleman Drive and Wellborn Road, sits in a low open portion of Wayne Smith Park susceptible to flooding. Water sources are Wayne Smith Park, a nearby subdivision, and Wellborn Road. Additionally, the project provided a new 42" storm water relief line, two new 8" and two new 6" sanitary sewer lines, and two 6" water lines additional to the smaller lines required for service to the project.
