Story

A rare, historic residential property that's remained in one family for approximately 150 years. It includes the original homestead log cabin, built circa 1880, and a subsequent stick-built home added in 1920. Magnificent old-growth oak trees create a beautiful front and back yard. It also includes the original log smokehouse and root cellar, all of which reflect the way of life and traditions at the turn of the century. There is approximately 361 feet of road frontage on Gee Road.

Our client’s vision is to create unique experiences through two short-term rentals, embracing the 1880 log cabin and the 1920 ranch-style addition.

The conceptual program recommended removing the addition and enclosed dog-trot, salvaging most of the materials for interior use. Stabilize and restore the log cabin, including a new foundation.

For the cabin, restore the exterior and the interior living area, then provide a fully accessible bath and a small kitchenette on the back side, followed by a bedroom on the left side.

For the 1920 ranch-style addition, construct a new cabin with a living area at the front, followed by the kitchenette, and the bedroom and bath on the back side.

A new dog-trot space connects the cabin to the ranch-style addition, forming a clear program sequence.
